MIM Faux Gilding

MY BFF, Linda: Lins Craft Corner surprised me with a visit.  She was suppose to come down for SAF in August, but because of my total Knee Joint Replacement we canceled it.
I thought it would be a nice distraction from laying on the couch most of the day with ice on my knee.  We both wanted to do the MIM, she was much quicker about getting hers done as I had to take a few breaks that resulted in me falling asleep on the couch with the ice machine!  LOL
I finally got 'er done!  I am playing with MIM where Laurie is showing us some faux gilding by using embossing powders.  You can watch the video HERE. I used gold, copper, and liquid platinum.
I actually used real gilding flakes for the edge of my PTI Pearced Feature Frame.  I decided to edge both the outside and the inside of the frame.  And I didn't worry about keeping the lines straight, I was going with more of a messy look I guess you could say!
The "blessing" sentiment was actually embossed with copper which in real life helps bring out more of the copper in the leaves.  Here in the picture with the lighting it looks gold, but it is NOT!
this was a very fun technique and I would like to try it on other images using different colors of embossing powders.

Friends I am still struggling with getting my knee to bend.  Last Friday I had it manipulated, (yes I was totally OUT for that procedure).  The doctor was able to bend it no problem, so there is no reason why it couldn't or shouldn't bend.  Yes there is still some swelling but not a huge amount.  The skin just feels so tight and taut, it hurts to bend.  Now I see PT 3 times a week and the doctor is thinking I should go into some contraption called a Dynasplint brace, and from the looks of the video looks very uncomfortable.  We shall see what my therapist things of that!  I think I would like to see him 5 days a week instead! (LOL).  I am very slow about getting things made and then posted, too many breaks for the couch!
Here is a look at Laurie's card:

Thanks for taking a look...have a great weekend!
Heart Hugs, friends!

What a wonderful treat to have Linda surprise you with a visit. You're both a blessing to each other! Your card is stunning Colleen and I love the extra touches of gold around the frame. I hope and pray that God brings you complete healing soon. Sending hugs my friend.

I know how much it lifts your spirits to have Linda visit and I hope this makes the recovery that much better. The dynasplint brace looks medieval and I hope it doesn't have to be. But, if it does, wear it with pride! This card is stunning and the technique looks so easy to do. I will be trying this out and hope I get the lovely results you got on your card. Hugs for you.

It may have taken awhile but it sure turned out BEAUTIFUL Colleen!! I love the gilding you did around the pierced frame too...really ties the whole card together! I wish the healing was going much quicker for you my friend...I'm sure it must be very frustrating to not be able to do such simple things at this point! I'm sure having Lin visit helped a lot with lifting your spirits though, and I hope with the continued PT that things get a whole lot better sooner rather than later! Take care of yourself my friend!! Hugs! :0)

Colleen, your card is beautiful and definitely worth your efforts...even if you needed a couch break. So glad Linda is visiting you as I’m sure she lifted your spirits. Sorry to hear you’re having issues with bending your knee. Praying your added therapy is just what you need. Happy healing!

Friend, I love how your leaves turned out and the extra gilding around the frame adds so much to it. It has been so fun visiting with you even though you had to go take a nap every few minutes. HaHa. No, it wasn't that often. I'm so sorry that you are having to go through this, but in a couple of week, (months) it will be so wonderful. Just keep doing your exercises and this too shall pass....Love & Hugs...

OMG, the comment above was from Linda, not myself. She forget to sign me off and sign on. LOL...And this is Linda too. Duh

This is beautiful Colleen! The leaves and the edge around the frame are stunning...beautiful colors. I love the green background. Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your knee. I had trouble getting my second one to bend and had to end up going to Physical Therapy. Hang in there, it will get better. Heart hugs, Sharyn.

This is GORGEOUS, my friend! Not only are the leaves beautiful embossed with three shades of embossing powder but your gilded edges have me in awe! I've never had much success with gilding flakes. If I could get them to look like this, I would use them more often! I hope your knee starts cooperating without any torture machines!

One would never know you weren't in perfect form with this show stopper! I just love this technique! your card is stunning.

So sorry to hear you are having trouble bending your knee. My Dad had to use a contraption to facilitate bending his knee after surgery. It is a long road but I know you'll be kicking up your heels in no time.

BIG (((Hugs)))

Amazing card Col!! LOVE your faux gilded leaves and the gilding flakes on the frame. So beautiful, shiny, rich, and elegant looking. Beautiful fall card. I should try this technique ... it's so cool!! XX

Considering what's going on with your knee, you did an amazing job even finishing this card, Col, let alone doing such a gorgeous artsy job of it! It's spectacular!! I'm so sorry the doctor wasn't able to just hit the spot to make it so you could bend your need without pain when you woke up. What a bummer! There must be some ointment or something to help with the taut skin, something that burn victims use, maybe? I hope whatever you and your doctor and your therapist decide does the trick, my friend. Love and huge hugs, Darnell

So sorry things aren't going as planned with your surgery recovery, Colleen. How wonderful Linda could be there for a few days. Gotta say, may have taken awhile, but you sure ended up with a gorgeous card! Sending hugs & wishes for big improvements!

Love all that faux gilding! What a great technique (thanks for the link to the video as I want to try it)! Great idea to add the gilding flakes to the frame too.

Oh, I'm behind on my commenting, Colleen., so sorry. Sounds like you've been through a lot with your total knee replacement! I so hope that things are going better for you. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Your card is very pretty with the lovely leaves and gold frame and sentiments! Take care, hugs!
